I would go to my cousin’s house in the suburbs of Chicago, thinking that riches were associated with the Cul de Sac. I learned of air freshener highs, John Hughes film inspired sneakery, and a way to imagine the mafia within every comment.
Because when I went back home, I would retreat into a backwoods, that allowed me to retreat into the back of my mind. I hear voices, and I talk back to them. The developed world is not this, and I want to curate the world that is messy oaks and mossy stoops.
